Hi, I'm Amie Boyd and here is your chance to learn all about me and my website amiemusic.co.uk.
Born and bred in Rugby, Warwickshire, I have been performing since the age of 3 with various local dance schools, theatre societies, choirs and music ensembles before undertaking a BTEC ND Performing Arts at Stratford Upon Avon College, specialising in dance. During this time I maintained my instrumental studies, specialising in Recorder under Caroline Jones, as well as practicing drumkit and teaching myself piano and guitar skills.
In 2005 I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Music from the University of Wolverhampton where I also won the Worfield Charity Trust Prize for best final year performance.
Employment with Warwickshire County Music Service (now Warwickshire Music) and Coventry Performing Arts Service gave me the foundations to explore teaching skills in group, individual, whole-class instrumental and even whole school singing, and in 2009 I obtained my PGCE in Secondary Music from Birmingham City University. Throughout my career I've been teaching privately from my home in Rugby with students of all ages and abilities covering vocals, recorder, beginner keys, drums, guitar and theory.
During this time I met the band ‘The Draw’ and following a performance with them at my wedding in 2012 I joined them as singer, firstly providing backing vocals and eventually adding saxophone to the mix. A change of members line up in 2014 led to the formation of Pop Rock Party Covers band ‘Last Lesson’ and saw myself adding keyboard and now Keytar to my instrumental arsonal.
In 2008 I was awarded a Diploma of the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music (DipABRSM) in Recorder Music Performance. I am an active member of the Arden Recorder Orchestra, performing at the Early Music Festival in London, BBC recordings in Manchester and internationally in Germany, amongst others.
Recently a new venture includes a recorder trio providing costumed period performance and Theatre in Education Workshops – keep up to date with updates on the upcoming events page!
